Let's talk about mobile - Growth of low cost Chinese Smartphone

In Korea low cost smartphones are selling like pancakes. The LG Uplus on Friday acquired
sales of Huawei’s Y6 dual handset, launched last December 16, had already exceed 5,000 units a week. Y6 hast a price tag of W154,000 making the most affordable smartphone in Korea.

LG Uplus also has an exclusive deal for phone, basically gives the phone away free, giving a huge discount even for consumers who sign up for the lowest flat rate of W29,900 monthly.

Unfortunately, 300 Y6 handsets had been sold on the first day, however the sale climbed to 800 a day. Later on the LG Uplus become the sixth bestselling smartphone beating the Samsung’s low end Galaxy A5.

Huawei original plan is to target 10,000 Y6 unit sales but with this rate it’s impossible to get it maybe they will reach it five to six months. If the Y6 will go well, maybe other low end Chinese smartphone producer like the Lenovo and Xiaomi are more likely to move it, in that case the competition will be tougher for LG and Samsung on their home turf.

The Affordable smartphones produced by Korea’s TG & Co. and made in China’s Foxconn has also been a hit, with a sale extending to 150,000 units since the release last September. Luna is sold via SK Telecom and upgraded the specs of a premium handset for W499,000 or even a half price.

Let's talk about Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5

For those Samsung fans. Samsung introduced their first Galaxy A series, the A3 and A5 and
now available in UK stores, the A series launched last February 12, 2015. These are the slimiest handset having a measure of 6.9mm from A3 and the Galaxy A5 measures 6.7mm thick. Each of these has a metal body, however unlike the rest Samsung’s metal collection such as the Galaxy Alpha and Note 4, A3 and A5 are both entry level smartphones that Samsung hopes may be more budget friendly and elegant than its current crop of affordable smartphones.

As mentioned, Samsung has not yet revealed the actual pricing of each handset, both of this smartphones have a decent spec as mentioned earlier it’s a entry level smartphones so obviously all of us would not be surprised if they ended up costing around in the region of £150-250 with free SIM. Comparing the displays the A3 have a smaller display with a 4.5inch 960x540 resolutions while the A5 have a 5inch 1280x720 resolution display and each handset have the Samsung Super AMOLED panels, so expect the color accuracy is probably high.

Ines van Gennip, Marketing Director for Samsung UK & Ireland's IT & Mobile Division stated: “At Samsung, we recognize the demand for premium looking, great quality smartphones with useful features at an achievable price point, which is why we’re launching the Galaxy A-Series.’’
